Did
you know that only at 20 years of age she
has been part of seven various tv series.

Born
in Charlotte, North Carolina, her family moved to
Virginia Beach, Virginia when she was 2. Ten years
later, after attending Trantwood Elementary and
Great Neck Middle School, her parents divorced.
Her mother moved Chyler and her brother Christopher
to Miami, Florida, while her father chose to stay
in Virginia. Once in Miami, Chyler attended Nautilus
Middle School and an unknown High School before
dropping out* persue her career. Still in Miami,
she joined up with private acting coach Sharon Lane
and was represented by Lane Management. This lead
to numerous modeling jobs and commericals, the most
famous being for beverage company Coca-Cola and
hamburger restaurant Wendy's. In 1996 she landed
a co hosting spot on a syndicated talk show called
"Hall Pass" which lasted until 1998. In early 1999
Chyler Leigh & her brother Christopher Lee (neither
uses their real name professionally) both auditioned
for and won roles on a WB series called "Safe Harbor".
Sounds like a dream come true, right? Wrong! The
producers unwittingly cast the siblings in the roles
of teenage love birds! Chyler has this to say on
what happened when the network executives found
out: "They were like, 'Oh shit, now we have to rewrite
everything,'" Leigh says laughing. "My brother had
been living in Los Angeles, and I was in Miami,
when we auditioned for the show. It was weird."
Unfortunately, the hour long drama only aired from
September 1999 - November 1999.
Following
the failure of "Safe Harbor", Chyler was cast as
the lead in the pilot episode for not one, but two
series: "Saving Graces" and "Wilder Days". Neither
pilot was picked up by a network. Somewhere along
the way after her move to Los Angeles, Chyler switched
management to The Gersh Agency. Chyler's big break
came with her audition for "Not Another Teen Movie".
Originally auditioning for a small role as "Amanda
Becker - The Perfect Girl" she secretly yearned
for the lead role of "The Pretty Ugly Girl - Janey
Briggs". However, she says "My manager told me,
'Don't get your hopes up, they're probably going
to want someone with a bigger name than you.' So
I went in and the director looked at me and goes,
'You know what? I want to give you Janey.' Next,
Chyler was seen on the Fox spinoff series "That
80's Show" in the role of Tuesday, the rebel punk
rock chick. Ironically, she first auditioned for
"Sophia", but when executive producer Terry Turner
met Leigh, he had an inspiration - "We had her read
for the part of Tuesday. After the audition, we
said, 'Wow!' She's perfect.' " Chyler was suprised
to find out she would be sporting a mohawk for the
series. "It's a pretty painful process. They color
it -- make it darker -- and then they basically
tease it at the bottom and put about 9 pounds of
hair spray on it. I have to keep the hair short
enough so it doesn't fall over when they spike it
up." And did the new 'do stay? "She'll be spiked
in every show," said Turner. |
