"I'm
the kind of actress that absolutely believes
in exposing myself."

Kate Winslet was born in Reading, England into
an acting family. Both of her sisters and father
are all actors. Her first job came as a dancer in
a commercial in her mid-teens. Her television debut
came in the 1988 British series called Shrinks.
Her film debut came in "Heavenly Creatures," a film
that received rave reviews from critics and established
Kate as a actress to keep an eye on. In 1995, she
starred in "Sense and Sensibility," a film that
garnered her an Oscar nomination. But alas it was
not in her fate to win the nomination.
Her biggest role was in 1996's Titanic. The amazing
film received critical kudos throughout the country,
and tied the record with Ben Hur for eleven Oscars
won. It established Kate as a Hollywood superstar
and she was also included in the nominations, making
her the youngest actress ever to have two Academy
Award nominations.
She turns down more respectable film roles for those
she sees as being more creative. Those roles included
the lead roles in Shakespeare in Love, as well as
the role Jodie Foster would eventually take in Anna
and the King.
She married Jim Threapleton in November 1998, who
she met on the set of her film Hideous Kinky. The
two had a child in 2000. The experience was a wonderful
one for Winslet, however, her weight ballooned and
she had to lose weight. She regrettedly admitted
she was going on a diet, saying that it upset her
to have to join the ranks of the Hollywood dieters,
but otherwise she'd "not get any work." |
