Sarah
was born January 8th, 1979 to Michael and Diane
Polley. She grew up in a family that was very involved
with the entertainment industry, her father is an
actor and her mother, was a casting director (who
unfortunately died of cancer). She also has two
brothers and sisters. Polley is known to be well-
read with a keen mind. She is a crusader for social
issues and works with the Canadian Peace Alliance.
She hopes to be a writer but her recent successes
as an actress might change her mind. A veteran of
film and television while still in her teens, Sarah
Polley made her screen debut at age four, playing
a street waif in the feature One Magic Christmas,
starring Jan Rubes. At nine, she won North American
critical acclaim for her performance in the PBS
family series Ramona. She went on to win international
recognition for her lead role in Terry Gilliam's
big screen fantasy adventure, The Adventures of
Baron Munchausen, and the television series, Road
to Avonlea (CBC/Disney). Her stage debut came in
the summer of '94 in the title role of the Stratford
Festival's Alice Through The Looking Glass.
Her recent
portrayal of the only surviving child in a schoolbus
crash in Atom Egoyan's celebrated feature, The Sweet
Hereafter, produced by Alliance Communications,
earned her a Genie nomination as best actress, and
catapulted her back into the international spotlight.
That film also marked her recording debut - she
sang two of the songs on the score which is released
by Virgin Records. She has also had principal roles
in two other Alliance films - Egoyan's Exotica,
and Thom Fitzgerald's The Hanging Garden. Most recently
she starred in the CBC telecast of The Planet of
Junior Brown, and completed shooting two films -
the CBC movie White Lies, about a middle-class girl
who is lured into the neo-nazi movement; and Don
McKellar's Last Night with Callum Keith Rennie and
Sandra Oh. A self-possessed and pragmatic young
woman, Sarah has very decided views on her profession
and her place in it. She is an avid reader and actively
supports environmental and human rights issues.
Sarah plays Ronna Martin in the new film "GO", starring
Katie Holmes, Scott Wolf, Jay Mohr, and a number
of other young actors. Althought hyped like so many
of Hollywood's failures, Go combines fast paced
music with a concrete storyline to create an ultimate
viewing experience. Sarah plays her part well, as
well as her co-actors. (which I found rather suprizing...)
Scott Wolf, Katie Holmes, and Jay Mohr also give
good performances. A must see. Especially for Sarah
Polley fans! |
